I'm currently listening to this audiobook called Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari which has me reflecting a lot on the systems human beings created.
My friend sent me a copy. Thanks for fcking up my reality a little more lol. In all seriousness, the information is pure gold.
Humans are strange
So, the author is a World History professor and claims that all the systems we interact with every day including laws, politics, religion, business, money are all imagined realities and stories that are used to keep humans working toward a specific goal.
How else can you get millions of people working together? We would need to explain all this abstract stuff and earn trust from complete strangers every single time.
Now, the problem is that most of these systems weren't well-thought out and it's now doing more damage than good.
All our systems are screwed up?
I still have a long way to go to finish up the book, but it's super interesting. It'll probably change my life a little more in terms of how I perceive the world.
The strange part of all this is that my gut told me the education and job systems were screwed up, but I had no idea things were messed up even on the second and third and fourth level. I now understand why it's so hard for people to abandon everything.
It's just way easier to be part of the crowd and not ask the tough questions.
My challenge to you
Now, I challenge you to go back home and reflect a bit after work. Is the life you have now what you always really wanted or is it something your family and friends told you that you should have?
Follow your gut, my friend.
P.S. Here's a short talk about Sapiens on y0utube
